Great Things: A Handwritten Font for Creative Web Projects

As I was designing the hero section for a new boutique online store, I stumbled upon Great Things, a classic handwritten font with an authentic twist. This typeface immediately caught my eye with its unique and organic feel, perfect for adding a personal touch to any digital project.

A First Look at Great Things

Great Things is not just another script font; it's a carefully crafted typeface that brings a sense of warmth and personality to any design. The font's natural, flowing lines and slight variations in stroke width give it a hand-drawn, almost calligraphic quality. This makes it ideal for creating a more human and relatable brand identity.

Using Great Things in Website Headers and Hero Sections

For the online store, I decided to use Great Things in the main header and hero section. The font's playful yet elegant style perfectly complemented the boutique's brand, which is all about offering unique, hand-picked items. The result was a visually appealing and inviting landing page that immediately drew visitors in.

Readability and Visual Hierarchy

One of the key considerations when using a decorative font like Great Things is readability. While it works beautifully for large headings and short phrases, it may not be the best choice for body text or long paragraphs. To ensure a balanced and readable layout, I paired Great Things with a clean, sans-serif font for the body copy. This combination maintained the visual appeal while ensuring that the content was easy to read and scan.

Great Things in Call-to-Action Areas and Buttons

In the call-to-action (CTA) areas, I used Great Things for the button text. The font's distinctive style made the CTAs stand out, encouraging users to take action. However, I made sure to test the font on different screen sizes and backgrounds to ensure that it remained legible and effective, even on smaller screens and over images.

Applying Great Things to Blog Graphics and Digital Ads

Beyond the website, Great Things also found its way into the blog graphics and digital ads. The font's versatility allowed it to work well in both static and animated formats, making it a valuable asset for the brand's overall visual identity. Whether it was a promotional banner or a social media post, Great Things added a touch of creativity and professionalism.

Font Pairing and Design Consistency

To maintain a consistent and professional look, I chose a complementary font for the supporting typography. For the online store, I opted for a simple, geometric sans-serif font. This pairing created a harmonious balance between the decorative and functional elements of the design, enhancing the overall user experience.

Practical Tips for Using Great Things

Final Thoughts on Great Things

Incorporating Great Things into the boutique online store's design was a rewarding experience. The font's unique and authentic style not only enhanced the visual appeal but also helped in building a more engaging and memorable brand experience. Whether you're working on a creative portfolio, a coaching website, or a product landing page, Great Things is a versatile and stylish choice that can elevate your digital projects.
